The Monsters on the Ohio Catfishing Tournament is an annual event that takes place every year in October in Owensboro Kentucky. It indeed is the one of most prestigious catfishing event in the country that attracts thousands of spectators each year.
This Past October, over one hundred and twenty anglers descended on the city of Owensboro Kentucky to try their luck at winning the top cash prize and claiming the covenanted title of Monsters on the Ohio Champions.
Results for the 2012 Monsters on the Ohio event.
The weather and low water flow conditions played a role in the final outcome of this event. A cold front blasted through the region the wendsday before the event, bringing the regions first hard frost and low windy temperatures which resulted unstable barometric pressures and slow bite conditions.
Although, when you put a bunch of good anglers on the water in tough conditions, some will always find the slightly more active catfish to bring to the scales.
On tournament day the anglers blasted off to their fishing spots at 6:30 am and are required to quit fishing at 3pm and return to the weigh in before 4 pm, where over a thousand spectators were awaiting the anglers return to see some monsters brought to the scales and see the final results.
The day turned out nice with temps in the mid 70’s and south winds at 17 mph, but the fish were not as active as most of us would have liked to seen and only a portion of the anglers were able to find some active catfish.
